For over 86 years, Tovali Drinks has been a cornerstone of Carmarthen life, providing thirst-quenching beverages enjoyed across generations. The family-run business, known for its cordials and fruit-flavoured squash, supplies major national and international supermarkets. However, a sharp increase in energy costs—rising from £13,000 to £53,000 in just 12 months—threatened its financial stability.
Tovali’s fully automated production line, producing over 120,000 bottles per cycle, is entirely reliant on electricity. With energy prices escalating rapidly, Managing Director Eurwyn Harries faced a tough decision. “Despite a healthy business, these unsustainable energy costs posed serious economic uncertainty. I wasn’t prepared to let that happen,” he explained. Many businesses in similar situations were forced to close, but Eurwyn sought a proactive solution to future-proof operations.
Determined to find a cost-effective way to manage energy expenses, Tovali turned to local renewable energy specialists, Celtic Green Energy. With extensive experience in commercial solar PV solutions, Celtic Green Energy conducted an in-depth site assessment to evaluate Tovali’s specific energy demands.
Led by Managing Director Julian Jenkins and the team developed a customized solar energy proposal designed to maximize efficiency while minimizing costs. The plan involved installing a cutting-edge Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system that would harness free solar energy to power the factory’s energy-intensive production line.
Tovali required an installation process that wouldn’t disrupt its daily operations. With a team of expert installers, Celtic Green Energy successfully installed the PV system on the factory roof, ensuring seamless integration without affecting production.
The new solar PV system now generates enough electricity to sustain Tovali’s manufacturing operations, significantly reducing reliance on the national grid. The financial impact has been substantial, with projected annual savings of nearly £13,000 on energy costs.
By embracing renewable energy, Tovali has not only reduced operational costs but also strengthened its commitment to sustainability. This move aligns with the company’s long-term goals of innovation and environmental responsibility.
“The transition to solar energy has been a game-changer for us,” said Eurwyn Harries. “Celtic Green Energy provided a professional and efficient installation, allowing us to continue production uninterrupted while securing long-term energy savings.”
